The Video Platform Provides Users Power to Decrease AI-Generated Content in Their Feeds

The platform is rolling out a updated setting that enables them to cut down on the volume of artificial intelligence-produced content appearing in their streams. This move comes as the service disclosed that it now features more than 1 billion content made with AI.

Pilot Phase and Launch

The new functionality is being tested over the following weeks before a full-scale release. This development aligns with a rise in AI-generated material, fueled by new video-generation tools.

The Broader AI Trend

Studies have shown that almost 10% of the most rapidly expanding channels on a competing service only show clips produced artificially. A significant portion of this content is considered mass-produced AI material, a term for inferior, mass-produced content that is frequently illogical or surreal.

“We know from our community that numerous viewers like content produced via AI tools, including computer-generated images to informative clips, and we want to provide users the power to adjust the amount of that, based on their own choices,” said a platform representative.

AI on the Platform

The platform shared that there are currently over a billion videos on its service labeled as made with AI. In total, more than 100 million videos are added to the app each day, making AI-generated material a minor percentage of its complete catalog.

How to Adjust Settings

Members will be able to limit or boost the amount of AI-generated videos they watch by accessing the “manage topic” feature in the application and selecting the AI content topic. Other topics that are already be modified under the tool include news, style, beauty, and movement.

AI Disclosure Rules

Its rules require users to identify convincing AI-made content, and it prohibits harmful AI impersonations of public figures or emergencies. Any authentic-looking AI video that is unmarked can be removed under its community policies.

Furthermore, the service will now attach an artificially created label to content produced via its built-in AI features, or detected by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing content made by AI. This measure is aimed to help prevent users from trying to bypass the tagging system.

Educational Initiatives

The company is also introducing a $2 million awareness program for experts and groups to develop educational content about using AI responsibly. This project will benefit educational bodies focused on teaching coding and technology.

Platform Protection

The platform has supported its content review process, during discussion over intentions to cut jobs for numerous safety staff in the UK. TikTok is expected to reduce a significant number of roles in its user protection team in London, with labor groups and online safety experts raising concerns that staff are being displaced by AI moderation.

A company official stated that human moderation would continue to be important, but artificial intelligence can safeguard staff by eliminating the most harmful content before it is viewed by staff. The platform reported a 76% decrease in explicit and harmful content handled by content reviewers over the last 12 months due to the use of its AI tools.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate people and machines to ensure user safety,” the official commented. “We’ll have staff as part of that process, but we also think it’s extremely critical to limit contact with dangerous material as quickly as possible, which is why a lot of the machine support is really helping us process content quickly.”
