The Showrunner Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... Currently.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show wrapping up—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the creative team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. He is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Will Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by fan response, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We have some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to discard a good idea for a better idea. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why mess with the classics?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
