Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their maiden championship series after 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the AL Championship Series.

Down 3-1, the star outfielder delivered a three-run homer in the seventh, leading the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series triumph in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the upcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm just so happy for this squad, our city, Canada," Springer stated, an integral part of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "What an amazing experience."

The veteran has now slugged 23 total October home runs, ranking him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).

"It's hard to imagine another player on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that spot except for him with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the early in the series, remain the one club yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it's painful" after his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their performance throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we finished on the losing end of this one," he remarked.

The Blue Jays claimed the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
