Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his position following another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” Slot stated.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase such as this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
